Orthopaedic Traumatology refers to the orthopaedic care of patients with multiple injuries, difficult fractures, and non-unions (fractures that do not heal). Often the victims of motor vehicle accidents or falls from great heights, these patients may suffer from numerous fractures as well as life threatening injuries to other organ systems. Orthopaedic trauma management differs from treatment of less complicated or isolated fractures as surgery is often required.
